Silavadee Wellness Spa

Angie Thien for "Where in Spa"
March 26, 2011

What all of the fancy websites and tourism posters fail to mention is that vacations are tiring.

Flights constrain your muscles, jet lag weakens your resolve, and even with good transportation you're almost always certain to explore much of your new destination on foot.

We know.  We've been there too.

It's because of this that we're thankful for spas, and on Koh Samui, a neck and shoulder rub is never too far away.  But should you wish to (over) indulge, there's one Mecca for massages that's not to be missed on your next visit to the island.

On a quiet rocky cove stands Silavadee Pool Spa Resort.  Famous for magnificent weathered stones that are incorporated into the resort's architecture—think rock nestled villas and giant cliffside pools—this little heaven has an amazing hidden secret:  The Silavadee Wellness Spa.

Having won numerous awards for their skilled therapists, The Silavadee Wellness Spa is one of those places where you can be sure your needs are met.  Treatment rooms are made of antique teak, each with floor to ceiling windows, a private shower, bathroom, and jungle view.

The best treatments to book?  Silavadee has two signature massages, each lasting 2 hours.  For summer months or after sun bathing, we recommend the Silavadee Journey (THB 4,700++) which combines the long strokes of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massages with an amazing knock-you-out-kind-of-comfortable Indain Ayurvedic warm oil scalp massage.  The special oil blends will help to remoisten sun kissed skin and the long Lomi Lomi massage strokes will help relieve stressed muscles.   This is perfect for your first vacation days as a jet lag remedy to aid in sleep and relaxation.

The second signature treatment is the Sila Wellness (THB 4,900++.)  "Sila" meaning stone, and being an integral natural resource of the resort, this massage uses heated stones along with a deep muscle sports massage.  The treatment is best done in the evenings after a tiring day of touring the island, or during one of the cooling Samui rain showers.  Not at all a bad way to wait for the sun.

Other treatments are also available, with facials using Anne Sémonin products.  Spa opens 9:00 – 20:00 hrs.
