Yamazato Lunch

Samuel Castro for "When in Dining"
September 19, 2012

For residents of Bangkok, Japanese food is an easy treat. But for true connoisseurs of Japanese cuisine, few venues in the city stand out. We've been anticipating the launch of Yamazato restaurant at The Okura Prestige Bangkok for some time, and we're happy to report that one of Japan's most renowned international fine dining names remain true to its roots.

Yamazato, whose namesake at The Okura Amsterdam also holds 2-Michelin stars, made its way to Thai shores along with the luxury version of its famous hotel, The Okura Prestige Bangkok. Master chef Shigeru Hagiwara heads the kitchen and presents an amazing array of traditional Japanese lunches. Included in that list is the Shokado Bento Box (THB 1500++.) This premium lunch set consists of Japanese steamed egg custard, the finest sashimi as selected by the chef for freshness, a grilled dish and simmered dish, tempura, steamed rice, miso soup and dessert.

The Lunch menu also offers à la carte selections, noodles, or 'Lunch Gonzen' which provides a selection of a main dish and several sides served in full Japanese fashion. The Lunch Gonzen makes use of seasonal selections like grilled ‘catch-of-the-day’ fish or selected sashimi. For lighter meals, Yamazato also offers lunch time rice boxes priced from 500 – 1,800 THB.

The ingredients used at Yamazato are truly the finest possible, with Chef Hagiwara insisting on importing top quality produce, with fish sourced through Tokyo's famous Tsukiji Market. Every detail is taken into consideration, from traditional hand-painted seasonal ceramic plates and bowls to organic chopsticks that are found nowhere else. The dishes themselves are artfully presented, a feature that may be attributed to Hagiwara's classical training in kaiseki-ryōri, Japanese Haute Cuisine, another Yamazato specialty that can be enjoyed in the evenings.

We recommend that you sit next to the massive windows in the bright dining room or intensify your experience by reserving a coveted seat at the white marble sushi bar. In a group? Then opt for a bit of dinner-theatre at the live Temppanyaki tables.

Yamazato serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. For reservations please call +662 687 9000 or visit the Okura Prestige Bangkok's Website. For more information see our Yamazato Page.
