Walking into the China House, you feel 1930's Shanghai seeping from the walls, your vision is fogged, it's dark, it's sexy—this old house, the two storey manor which is older than it looks stands witness to everything and betrays no secrets. Frank Sinatra plays in the background, bamboo steamers release trails of whirling smoke, and you can only hear the faint chatter of other patrons behind closed screens. There is Crisp Peking Duck like nowhere else, Traditional Fresh Tofu, Imperial Shark's Fin, and the China House's own blend of specialty tea. But what you don't know can hurt you—or at least, give you food-envy—ask for daily specials, off menu items, and a full run down of seasonal desserts. Some secrets are meant to be shared, after all.
Take BTS to Saphan Taksin Station, go towards the Hotel Boat Pier and board the Mandarin Oriental shuttle boat.
